I need a monitor that is around 300-500 CAD.

I plan on using it for gaming and watching movies, but I don't really do any photo editing.

I'm looking for ips or similar, 1440p, and freesync, around 27"

I have a rx 580 gpu

Please post all suggestions in Canadian dollars

It can be done, no doubt. Would it be a good choice? I wouldn't bet on it.

Your GPU isn't capable enough to run recent games in 4K, you would need at least a GTX 1080 for this purpose. While you still can downgrade the res. to 1080p, you would be wasting money because you wouldn't be getting a proper 144Hz feeling nor getting the benefits from FreeSync and you would, above all else, you'd have to tweak some configs to run everything @1080p.

Not doubt it would be a wiser choice if you're willing to upgrade your GPU soon, benefiting from those extra pixels. But if you're not going to do that, wisest choice is probably going 1080p 144Hz w/ FreeSync
Have you considered sticking with 1080p? I also have a RX580 and it runs great in 1080p. Thing is, your budget doesn't allow for all the options you want: IPS, 1440p, freesync and 27." I have used many brands of monitors and never really had a bad experience, so its hard for me to narrow down to a specific brand. Take a look at this one. Its the only one near the top end of your budget. https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009769

I'd go with 1080p 144Hz Free-Sync.
IMHO a smoother image is better than more details,

With that said i'd recommend these:

If you're dead set on 1440p, then:

( Couldn't find a decent 1440p w/ FreeSync cheaper than that, sorry )

You can stretch my budget a little. Would the mg24uq be a good choice for a multipurpose monitor? It's the same size as alot of 1080p monitors so if my gpu couldn't handle 4k could I just turn down the resolution? Would it look fine?

Okay are there any 1080 monitors with freesync that are also ips or pls or something similar? I don't want the bad viewing angles that you get from tn but I also don't need crazy good colour.
