[SOLVED] Monitor no signal with two different GPUs

Hello all,

I have an HP Omen 30l that has an RTX 2060. I recently got lucky and got a 3080ti from Best Buy and I was wanting to swap out these GPUs. So I bought a new power supply since I figured the 500w one the comp came with would not be able to handle the new card. I installed the new psu and it all booted up fine with the 2060 installed. I then used DDU to remove the graphics drivers for the 2060, and once my pc had powered off, I installed the 3080ti. Upon booting, all of the fans and lights work including the light on the card itself. My monitor detects that the pc is on and goes from rest mode to a blue screen with no signal. I checked all the cables and such and nothing worked so I figured that I got a dead card. However, when I went to install my 2060 back in, it had the same issue. I am unsure what the actual issue is here and I would be very grateful for any insights and advice.

Solution
  1. Make sure you're plugging it to the right place on your motherboard
  2. Make sure your cable is fine.
  3. Try different cables
  4. Try Different types of cables, DP, HDMI, etc. (If later on you needed there's always convertors that cost like $3)
  5. Try different TV (with all of these options above)
  6. Make sure your tv/monitor are set to proper input
  7. Fully unplug your PC from electricity and peripherals, and keep holding the power button for almost 20-30 seconds. - Do the same for your monitor. Then boot it up see if that does anything.

What you're saying though is your screen is fully blue? have you tried launching in safe mode again using the integrated graphic and try to reinstall the drivers maybe you messed something...
Do you have another monitor you could test these cards on? So you eliminate the possibilities of what's broken.

I had a similar issue like you back in 2018 and it turned out to be the monitor itself, although it turns on, and you'd think its fully functional but nope.

Also, have you tried using different input for the monitor? I had a monitor once that stopped taking HDMI but took everything else, sometimes it could be the cable itself too if you're using the same one.

Try to eliminate possibilities one by one, as I doubt both of the cards just died ( makes sense right..?).

Hi thanks for the response. I did try hooking it up to my tv with no luck. I’ll get a vga cable and try that out.

I’m thinking maybe something happened to the slot? This mobo only has one so I can’t try the cards out on another. Might try replacing the the motherboard altogether just for fun

Im thinking you may be right about ddu, but couldn’t the pc display something even without drivers? Sadly the motherboard this pc came with doesn’t have and video output ports. No HDMI or dp other than the ones in the cards :/. I will try your list

Good news! I was able to get a signal using the dvi port on my 2060. I bought a DVI to hdmi converter, plugged one end into monitor hdmi port and the other into the DVI on my 2060. Hopefully the same will work if I get a display port converter for the 3080ti. Thanks for all your help! I’ll update you as to what happens next.

Yay I'm glad that I could help :) yep I had that happened to me on few cards or few monitors where I had to use the tiny converters over buying a whole new GPU.

Sometimes I used these (for like $3) to save myself from getting something worth hunreds of $dollars. Glad one of them worked hope the next one does too!
