Monitor no signal

So I recently bought procie, mobo, ram and hd (fresh installed os win10). As I got home and put the parts my case and turned it on, no signal coming but monitor is working i pulgged it in my laptop. I borrowed my friends monitor and its working(Asus VC24)
Is it because my monitor is old? Thats why its not working?

If your monitor has only an analog input for video (15 pin HD D-Sub ) then you will probably an hdmi (or dvi) to vga "active" adapter to make it work
