Hello everyone!

I have today just acquired my new Monitor, BenQ XL2411Z which supports up to 144hz.

I wanna run 120hz on my external monitor, and then the laptop monitor off.

Problem is, I can find resolutions like 800x600 and 640x480 which can run 120hz, but I can't find any 1920x1080 120hz resolutions.
I have tried to create a custom resolution with 1920x1080 120hz, but my GPU driver just stops working.

I am connecting my screen through Mini DisplayPort -> DVI Dual Link.
I have updated every driver, and my screen's isn't listed as a PnP screen.

So yearh, I was kinda hoping anyone of you could help me out, as I would really love to run this thing in 120hz in a higher resolution than 800x600 or 640x480 120hz.

TLDR: I wanna use my BenQ XL2411Z with my G75V and run 120hz on a decent resolution. No dual screen, external monitor will be the only one to get used.

I have just checked, and the cables is tightly connected, and I just used the following CD disc to install the monitor driver.

And at first they were both called "Standard PnP Skærm" Skærm=Screen
But after I installed the driver, it got renamed to this http://i.imgur.com/TVheNu3.png

And this is what I mean
I can chose 1920x1080 but only with 60hz - http://i.imgur.com/IWKjQ6U.png

But I can also choose 800x600 and then get 120hz - http://i.imgur.com/8anqS3q.png

I don't know what to do with the game loader program, I downloaded it, but I don't see a way to use it to fix my problem, and the S Switch is not something that is on the XL2411Z model.

Any other suggestions?

I have set my 2nd screen as the only screen.

The number 1 screen is my laptop, the number 2. screen is my external monitor

So it should be turned off.

Just to help you, the last part where it says "Flere skærme: Vis kun på skrivebord 2" "More screens: Show only on desktop 2"

When I press them, a big "2" just appears, and then when i press identify, it just says that there is no other screens detected.

Nothing happened after a reboot.

I can't choose 120hz in any settings.
I tried to create a custom resolution, with 1920x1080p 120hz but my screen driver still stops working when doing so.

I'm completely out of ideas on what to do
Everything is updated etc.

I'm seeing around the net the Asus G75V is more than capable of doing 120hz with the mini dp to dual link dvi. I'm just wondering whether the cable adapter you're using is dodgy, sorry to drop that on you, it just seems a bit odd there's quite a bit of hassle that appears to be hassles everywhere i've looked.

I'm not 100% certain but looking up some dp-dvi adapters, some are powered, if that is significant at all i don't know. Is yours a single straight through adapter or is there a usb connection from it as well? You seem elegant enough to know the difference but in case, if there is usb, that needs to be connected.

No USB or anything, it goes directly from my mini displayport in my laptop to the dvi dual link in the monitor

So you would suggest that I ask asus if it's needs to be powered or not, to run 120hz on an external monitor?

Yea, we'll see where that gets you regarding powered or not asking them directly.

You payed money for a good monitor and everything on the internet seems in favor for your laptop to run it, maybe Asus will give a more definite answer to whats going on.

Someone might jump on here with more knowledge with this but until then Asus would be worth a try. Hope they don't take too long replying.

There is no DP entrance in the XL2411Z :/

Just on Active adapters again, im assuming the cable you're using came with the monitor and guessing under different circumstances with a desktop gpu that cable would have worked.

Just some followup ideas to go on, the possibility your laptop's DP can't provide enough bandwidth for 1080p @ 120hz.

You need to be looking for a laptop with either a dual link DVI port (preferred, check for 166p support) or a Displayport output....

With the newer laptops these days you will find that dual link- DVI is getting less and less common but display port is replacing both HDMI/DVI

If you get a laptop with only displayport you will need to buy a active Displayport- dual link DVI converter

Good luck

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Overview

The DisplayPort signal is not compatible with DVI or HDMI. However, Dual-mode DisplayPorts are designed to transmit a single-link DVI or HDMI 1.2/1.4 protocol across the interface through the use of an external passive adapter that selects the desired signal and converts the electrical signaling from LVDS to TMDS. Analog VGA and dual-link DVI require powered active adapters to convert the protocol and signal levels and do not rely on Dual-Mode. VGA adapters are powered by the DisplayPort connector, while dual-link DVI adapters may rely on an external power source (see compatibility with HDMI, DVI and VGA).

Displayport - Mini Displayport differences; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_DisplayPort

Thought i'd research the differences between them because your laptop has the mini version. Wanted to clear things up for myself in case there were more differences besides cosmetics.
