Monitor occasionally not detecting input from PC on startup

I just got a new computer and monitor and lately my monitor sometimes randomly can't pick up any signal from my computer when I turn it on. Usually restarting the computer helps. It's probably been happening 1 in 3 times I turn it on. But just now as I exit one of my games, the monitor all of a sudden couldn't detect a signal from my computer(using displayport). I restarted the monitor and to my surprise it connected. This makes me thing it's a monitor related issue. What do you guys think? I'm thinking to go exchange the monitor but could the issue be as minor as a faulty displayport cable? For awhile I was thinking it was related to my GPU. Help would be appreciated.

Update: Within a week or two this problem went away on its own. I have done nothing and it seems my computer and monitor get along well now.
