I have an HP W2371d, it used to be my main display that I connected through HDMI to an adapter (the monitor has VGA and DVI-D, the adapter was something that plugs into the DVI port and sticks out of the back, that has an HDMI female port on it.) Yesterday, I got my new monitor, a Samsung C32JG56, which needs the HDMI port on my laptop, an Alienware 17 R5, and I don't have a Mini DisplayPort to full size DisplayPort. I do have a Mini DisplayPort to VGA, so I tried to use that with my old monitor. However, the resolution is locked at 1280x1024, but it's fine if I use HDMI I've tried an entirely different VGA cable, and the issue hasn't seemed to be fixed. My graphics card is a NVIDIA GTX 1070 mobile, Game Ready Driver 457.30, Windows 10 Home 2004, OS Build 19041.572

Edit: I just tried the same setup on another computer (HDMI to Samsung monitor, Mini DP -> VGA to HP monitor) and it worked fine, I got the native resolution on both monitors.
