[SOLVED] Monitor only has VGA port, need to convert GPU's HDMI output to the monitor's VGA input

The monitor in question works with an HDMI > VGA adapter with my laptop, however it does not work with my newly built PC using the same adapter. I read somewhere on this forum about "passive vs active" signals regarding a similar problem, but I don't think OP in that case had confirmed their monitor working with a different device using the same adapter. How does this apply even when my laptop is able to connect to the monitor but my PC's GPU doesn't recognize it (the monitor is just black and says no input detected)?

The GPU only has DisplayPort and HDMI. Upon further inspection, the old monitor also has DVI. What can I do?

Yes, assuming there is nothing wrong with the monitor.

That monitor has a DVI-D. As Glenwing said, HDMI to DVI OR DP to DVI adapter should work.

For HDMI to VGA, with a GTX 1660, you would need an 'active' adapter .
