Monitor orientation?

I am currently using just one 23" 1080p monitor. However, I am planning on expanding one monitor at a time to possibly eventually 3. My next monitor is going to stay primarily in portrait with my current one staying in landscape. What screen size would best work? I just ordered a 20" 1600x900 to be the portrait, but I have 30 days to return it and my current 23" just went on sale.

Also, if I got a second of whatever size I get my second monitor as (putting me at three monitors total), and had the option of rotating the two side monitors to landscape to game in Eyefinity, would it look weird to have two smaller monitors on the sides of a bigger one?

If you want to use 3 monitors, best thing is to get all 3 same size, or at least same resolution.
