Hi, so i've been looking at upgrading my setup. i'm looking at going for triple monitors, one ultrawide in the middle with two in portrait on the sides. It's becoming frustrating because every time i find a monitor that i like, it's not VESA compatible, doesn't have a portrait function, or both. So, my question is, why would a manufacturer choose to disable orientation preference, and is there a way to bypass it or force it in windows?

When a monitor's specifications state that it supports portrait orientation, that's generally just referring to the stand. As in, they're stating that the included stand can swivel to that orientation. If you use a VESA mount to attach a different stand, then portrait support will depend on that, not what the original stand could do.

As far as ultrawides are concerned, you probably won't find many with stands that support portrait orientation, since they would need to be extra tall to allow the stand to swivel into that orientation.

Yeah I knew you could change the preference in display settings, it just made it seem like they were going out of their way to specifically stated that it couldn't be used in portrait mode.

Ok, that was one thought that I had, maybe it was just that the stand didn't have a pivot function. It just seems weird to me that even though it's a VESA mountable monitor it would still say no, lol.

Thank you both for the replies.

Edit: Oh also, they won't all three be ultrawides, lol. I worded that weird. I want to go with a 34" ultrawide in the center and two 24" normal, er... I guess widescreen... Monitors in portrait.
