Monitor quality vs GPU

I don't really know why, but this monitor really seems to interest me: VG248QE. It's a very expensive monitor ($260-300 in some cases),that has a 144 hz rate, has built in G-sync, Has anti-tearing, and has 1 ms response time.However, because of the monitor price I had to downgrade some things in my cart: corsair rm 550 to a Rosewill capestone (gold certified), A gtx 780 to a 770 and no sound card. Is this monitor really worth it or no?

Heh it does sound good. I always find anti-tearing partially manufacture problem, besides the non-synced video output. In terms of gaming, I would rather have a better GTX 780 than a better monitor. You can find a $140-$170 monitor at extremely low response times (1/2), around 23", HDMI, 1080p. Not sure if you can do the upgrade to the GTX 780 though.

Have a look at these for cheaper but good ones.

I'd just go with any old 120hz monitor and rely on Lucidlogix MVP that's paired with z77 motherboards to help remove screen tearing. Stick with the better GPU over a better monitor.

Since when did IPS monitors have a 1ms GTG response time? Did I miss some new advancement in screen tech? If it's not an IPS panel for that price, you are paying for response rate, and perhaps branding, as it won't be the quality of color reproduction and viewing angle.

Also, I would not dare skimp on your power supply.

nope. not with the downgrade from the 780 to 770. listen, the psu downgrade isn't really a downgrade, but the drop in gpus is like a 20%-30% drop in performance. furthermore, $300 for a 24' 1080p monitor is insane. at that price i could almost get 3 1080p monitors...

I love what nvidia is doing with gsync. but unless your budget really allows that type of splurging, i just can't recommend the added cost.

My other monitor option was a VS228H-P with a gtx 780. But what if I could overclock the 770? Would it be like the 780? Because if I got a 780 I see no point overclocking so I would get the reference model. (anyways leaning to the Gtx 780 because I get to keep alot of items

no. the 770 even overclocked will still be noticeably slower then the 780.

No, the GTX 770 will never reach the performance levels of the 780. Try not to get the reference model, they're okay, nothing wrong. But aftermarket models have better cooling!

VS228H-P is good screen to pair the with graphics card.

Are you specifically after a 144Hz monitor, or is the alternative a GTX780 and 60Hz monitor? If the latter, I would get the 780 as it would be most likely to reach 60fps consistently so screen tearing would not be an issue. The 770 probably couldn't reach 144fps in most recent graphically demanding games, so the G-sync would be reducing the monitor refresh accordingly.
I guess that brings up the question - will the 770 consistently reach 144fps in the games that you will be playing?

No any monitor would do. It's just how the displayed the monitor on amazon from the 60 hz to 144hz, and says Non-tearing ( I had bad experiences with tearing) with fast response time. But thanks anyways
