I’m in the market for a new monitor as my current one is on life support and will not be around much longer. I’m looking for some advice/feedback between two monitors I have chosen for potential replacements. By all means, If you can think of a fantastic unit that I have left out, and you think I’d be crazy not to give it a look, please let me know. My current monitor is a BenQ 24”@ 1920x1080 but I want to upgrade to a 27” and have narrowed it down to the Asus VE278Q @ 1920X1080 2ms, and the Dell U2711 @ 2650 x 1440 6ms. I do understand I’m not comparing apples to apples and price isn’t the main concern. I am liking the Dell for its picture quality but an a bit concerned about it for my application. The monitor will be used mostly as a gaming monitor, but noting to graphic intense as I only really play World of Warcraft and World of Tanks, and perhaps Diablo 3 when that releases. My computer spec in brief is as follows:
CPU: Phenom II 965 BE
GPU: Powercolor 5870HD factory overclocked
4g RAM
My main criteria is good picture quality and bright colours. I’m mainly concerned about my video card running the higher resolution without having to turn the setting on my games down to compensate, which to me, makes it a moot point to having the higher resolution in the first place. My biggest complaint with my current set-up is that a lot of the object outlines are very jagged and not smooth like I would like them to be, I was hoping the higher resolution monitor would help. I plan to upgrade my video card in the next 12-18 months, but for now this is what I have. Any help or feedback is much appreciated.
