I just upgraded my PC to:

Ryzen 5 3600x

16GB Ram

Asus Rtx 2060 Super Strix OC

Current Monitor: LG 24 75hz 1080p monitor

I need help advice on picking a 144hz Monitor and Resolution for my new build. Go for 1440p or 1080p?

I mainly Play Overwatch, Apex, Monster Hunter World, Path of Exile while streaming (FPS and RPG).

I care about 144hz in FPS, I used to cap 60 fps in MHW (Mid-Low quality using a 1060 6GB while streaming)

Should i get 1440p or 1080p (24"/27")? My budget is 500 usd

These are some Monitor i am currently looking up in 3 categories

27" 1440p 27" 1080p 24" 1080p

LG 27GL850 LG 27GL650F MSI MAG241C

Asus VG27AQ Asus VG279Q

*If there is any other monitor that you suggest other than these, please mention

Concerns:

27" 1440p = I wont get enough power to drive 144hz and or have a good viewing experience as i would have to lower a lot of the graphic quality

27" 1080p = Its a 1080p that is stretched and I will notice pixels when focusing far targets in FPS, resulting in a bad experience as well

24" 1080p = Regret not getting 1440p, and the new 1ms IPS from LG 27GL850 would have been a better choice than a VA panel (motion blur, response time, lag)

To be honest it looks like you already know the concerns and you will need to compromise. Only you can decide what is important to you.

I’m not a fan of 1080p at 27” for text but for gaming and video it’s not bad at all and I’m an FPS player. Out of those choices I think 1080p 144Hz is the way forward for an RTX2060 which narrows it down to options 2 & 3.

I agree with the above. Don't go over 25" at 1080p.

The 2060S is a good gpu and it will provide good results at 1440p. If you enable ray tracing you'll lose FPS, so that's the downside.

All of the monitors you listed are good products.

I can comment on the Asus PG279Q. The colors are fantastic! The G-Sync works extremely well even when the FPS drops below 60. It tends to dominate the reviews for a reason.

Now, that LG is a new kid on the block and looks to be a great IPS monitor for the price. Maybe the best for the price.

There's also an entry level Asus TUF IPS monitor that has a nice panel too.

I will also add, since changing to 1440p I'll never go back to 1080p for gaming,

I'm in partial agreement with @sizzling on this - except that even text was pretty good for me when I had a 27" 1920x1080 monitor. For fast paced games, the "pixel size is too big" argument doesn't hold.

I also tend to prefer larger monitors for a given resolution.

That said, YOUR EYES have to judge it, and have to see it every day. If there's a shop somewhere within a semi-reasonable distance that has a large variety of monitors on display, go there and see them in person. See how they feel for you, both in terms of reading, and while I'm sure they won't let you game on them, maybe watching a YouTube video.

On the other hand, since I'm personally a fan of ultra-wide, split the difference: get a 34" 2560x1080 monitor, and enjoy 21:9 goodness!

As others wrote, don't go bigger than 24" with 1080p. Pixelization is a thing and really annoying.

Fixed 144 Hz is not possible with all games even with a better video card in QHD. I have GTX 1070 and 9700K and in QHD I get framerates between 75 and 100 in Battlefield V (with Nvidia recommended settings, if I can lower settings, I can some more I believe)

So with 2060 Super don't go QHD.
If you want 1080p don't go 27"
27" QHD 1440p is demanding.

I have Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD. It is an IPS monitor and I recommend it.
