Monitor (Samsung) Randomly Playing Dead

I have a Samsung SyncMaster P2770 that I love and have had running smoothly for over 3 years. I truly love this monitor. But recently he decided to play dead.

When the issues first started, it was pretty much trial and error when booting my PC - sometimes it would work nice and smoothly without shutting off, and sometimes it would just go blank all of a sudden (the lights on the bottom of the monitor indicating that there was a normal connection though), or the third thing would happen which is that the cursor would wonder off in a 4th dimension somewhere outside the screen and it would take a painstakingly long time dragging the mouse in one direction to get or ''drag'' it back on to the visible desktop. I didn't think it was that big of a deal since it would normally take just a quick restart (or two.. or three..) to get it back to running normal.

What's weird is that when it boots, the motherboard logo and the windows loading logo always (!) show up, but it just goes berserk when it tries to load the actual desktop. (PS, I'm running windows 8).

It's been a few days now and my once loyal and beloved monitor (no matter how many restarts) can not make it more then 5 seconds in the windows desktop - just barely enough to type in my password.

I have tried both the DVI and HDMI cable. It recognizes both as connected (motherboard logo and windows loading screen still do appear) - there's just no desktop showing up.

Is it possible that both the HDMI and DVI jacks on the monitor are dead or screwed up? (I know my cables are fine because they work on other monitors and computers..and because I have hamstered away quite a bunch of spare ones - but its the same with any cable).

And if this is a sign of a soon-to-completely-die-off monitor, is it worth taking it to a repair technician or is it cheaper/wiser to just buy a new one?

- Love,
Yana

As a technologically challenged person with a slight language barrier I honestly don't know what I'm running it with 😛 - sorry.
Its just frustrating because it clearly works. (The monitor that is.. I've hooked it up to an Xbox via HDMI and it worked great). It just does goes nuts with PCs once it actually gets into the OS.

I have one of those silly click-bios things by MSI and stuff works just fine there.. Its once it tries to get into Windows that it goes nuts. And if I can manage my way through and passed the windows log-in process, then it just turns blank sometime later. :/

If this helps give away any additional clues:
When hooked into a PC (HDMI or DVI, tried both with same results)
1. when I used ''fast-like'' motions such as the scroll mouse wheel on a webpage - It would go black for about a minute or two then pop back up normally until the next ''quick'' motion.
2. If I attempted to watch a movie it would not only shut off, but force the entire PC to restart.
3. Sometimes it splits the screen in half so I have the left side on the right and vice versa.
4. Another thing Ive noticed is that even though the resolution is set to its native recommended, it looks pretty darn sloppy and distorted. (Compared to what It used to be like..)

I managed to slowly and carefully navigate to update windows and it didn't help. .. And when I would try to look at my graphics card's drivers It would always turn black or restart. Basically the darn thing will not stay ''alive'' long enough for me to fix anything.

.. I started thinking it might be a graphics card problem, but I ruled that out as it-s acting weird on other PCs as well:

For instance, I've tried hooking it up my mothers computer and what it does with hers is: For starters there's a 50-50% chance of the monitor even turning on when I startup the computer. The light would blink as if there's no connection between it and the PC. But when it DOES recognize (after a few restarts) the monitor it works just nice and smooth.. No glitches, no random blanks, no forced restarts.

Maybe I just have trouble with both and am really unlucky? Broken graphics card and broken monitor at the same time?

I am currently going through their customer service for the same issue and they've told me it's a piece on the motherboard that's defective. I found that it wasn't only with my computer but everything, so when I connected my ps3 and ps4 it did the same thing, so I sent it in for repairs and it's now been gone for nearly 2 months saying they can't repair it cause they don't have the parts so I'm currently trying to get it replaced but I'm getting the cold shoulder. I'm slowly going up their chain of command at their customer service but it's been a long and horrible process.
