After upgrading from windows 8.1 to 10, my monitor stopped working, showing a "no signal" error then popping to black screen. The computer works I can hear it running when I power on, but the monitor shows nothing.

I tried to remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes (something I read from another thread), but didn't work. Anyone know how to fix this? thanks in advance !

Solution
If you actually have both graphics options running like you state, it's possible that your default monitor changed from the graphics card to the motherboard. Simply disable the integrated graphics in the bios and it should start up the card.

If your post is mistaken and only the external card is working (integrated already disabled), then it's likely that your monitor is "defective" and doesn't support certain resolutions properly. You'll need to try starting up in safe mode (using the upgrade media at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10) and reinstall the graphics drivers and set the resolution to something your monitor supports. You can also try changing the cable type used, especially if you're using VGA and...

Got it to work :) had to switch the monitor plug to the motherboard so I can see the upgrade to windows 10, then I had to update my drivers and then switched the monitor back. Works good now, hopefully nothing happens 🙁
thanks for your help! Have a good Christmas/holiday and new year :)

That's only temporary, you need to change your bios to "automatic" switching to the pcie graphics card to make sure it never happens again.

And remember to pick the solution so that people know it was answered.
