Monitor screen goes blank suddenly but pc still running

i want to know that Monitor screen goes blank suddenly but pc still running (Cpu fan starts spinning)

CPU fan MUST spin everytime the computers starts otherwise your CPU would grilled from medium to well done..check if your cables are intact and not loose(VGA Cable),or the monitor loses power.

There are 3 ways that a display could go blank while the CPU is still running.(self experience)
>>> 1st Way: Screen saver:
Change Screen Saver Settings

1. Right click on the desktop, then click Personalize.
2. Click Screen Saver on the bottom of the Personalization window.
3. change it to “NONE” or increase the waiting time(your call.)

>>>2nd Way: Power Settings
Go to
Control panel > Power options >Choose when to turn off the display (look for this in the side bar)
1. Set “TURN OFF THE DISPLAY ” to NEVER
2. Set “PUT THE COMPUTER TO SLEEP ” to NEVER.
3. And then continue to “Change advanced power setings”
4. go to "SLEEP"
4.1. set "SLEEP AFTER" to NEVER.
4.2. set “ALLOW HYBRID SLEEP” to OFF.
4.3. set “ HIBERNATE AFTER” to NEVER.
5. go to “DISPLAY”
5.1. set “TURN OFF DISPLAY AFTER “ to NEVER.
Press APPLY and then OK .

>>>3rd Way: {(THIS IS A VERY RARE CASE)} Any external hardware can cause this (like a keyboard or mouse can cause system to sleep to save the power )
1. To change this go to “MANAGE ” by right clicking on the “MY COMPUTER “ icon on the desktop .
2. Go to DEVICE MANAGER.
3. Click on the keyboard or mouse or any other USB devices and right click on them and go to PROPERTIES and select POWER MANAGEMENT and untick the appropriate box.

I would grateful for an answer to this question as well

My desktop (XP) has done this twice in a couple of days, once I might have touched a key on the keyboard the first time but not the second time. The monitor is still on (light is green not orange), and I've tried swapping the VGA out from the graphics card to the on board graphics.
Power options are everything 'always on'. Graphics card fan and lights are on. I don't have a second monitor I can use (except my the laptop display)

Kimimaro74: I tried all three but my screen still blanks out. It doesn't blank out permanently mind you, it goes off and on as though someone were playing with a light switch. On my husband's laptop however, (same as mine - Toshiba Qosmio) he needs to restart/reboot his computer whenever it happens, which is not as often as it has become on mine (happens 6-10 times a day, at worst 15).

We both updated windows from 8.1 to 10 several months ago. He's had continuous problems, whereas mine just started recently building up to the crescendo that's in now.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that we did try your solution. We suspect that it's something to do either with the video card or the windows updates.
