Hello,
What is important when selecting and comparing monitors. I would like something that can also double as a monitor for gaming, whether on Xbox or PC games.

I guess resolution and input counts. It also depends on the power of your video card. For example, you can run games at the best graphics setting on 1024 x 768 but there is no guarantee that you can also run the same settings on a 1920 x 1080 setting.
I would generally recommend DVI (It is better than VGA) for the input.

Most monitors will get you 1080P which is pretty standard at this point. What you're really looking for are deals and reviews.

Bonuses for your situations...

- Not all monitors have HDMI inputs (they sometimes only have a Digital and/or Analog). It would just work better for your if you plan on plugging your console in.

- 3D? Although very few games support 3D, there are some that do...not to forget that 3D movies are a lot more fun to watch...

There's not much to it really... just your preferences (where price and reliability are usually the big players).

Hope this helped.
