Monitor selection guides?

Do you know some guides about contemporary LCD screens for someone who is not up to date to the features offered? Might be looking for a high-quality 24" screen for gaming/web browsing/general use but I suppose it's best to start by reading about what I might be looking for, ie. what are the important parameters in today's screens - after that I can start figuring out what I really want...
