Monitor & Sound With Consoles

I wish to use an HD monitor for my soon to be gaming pc and also use it for my xbox one and ps4, so I have a gaming setup on one desk.

I understand to use an hdmi switch to go between the different devices but what about sound? I know to use my pc sound card for the pc but what about the consoles? Would I need a monitor that has a 3.5mm audio out port? I've seen a few like that. I would primarily be using headphones for sound. I'm just not sure it would work because I've seen on some online threads that some folk are having problems with it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

HDMI cables carry sound so the sound would be carried from the console to the display and out it's speakers/audio ports(if it has them).

This HDMI switcher includes a headphone jack if you are going for 1080p. Good for if you are using headphones primarily. Only problem is that it would bypass your sound card.
