Hey guys,

About 4 months ago, my less-than-a-year-old setup was stolen from my house. As insurance has so graciously paid for me to have it replaced, I've been looking into the replacement parts for it all. One thing that's got me is the monitor. The monitor I had bought a year ago was an Asus VH236H 23 inch monitor from Tigerdirect.

In my honest opinion, that thing was great. I didn't get the chance to play any top end games on it, but the games I did play it did everything I expected out of it. I paid about $220 for it last April, and it's down to $176 now, $156 after a rebate. My question to you guys is this - for somebody looking for about 1920x1080 resolution for a mid-grade gaming computer, is there anything new this last year that would make me reinvest that $220 into the newest technology, or should I stick with the one I bought last time? Frankly, I don't keep up with display tech outside of the timeframe that I really need to buy one, and I'm just wondering if anybody has any recommendations on a better one. Obviously, the lower price is nice for something I know works well, but I also wouldn't mind pitching in more money for something worthwhile.

I suggest you fill in the template I made (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/59847-3-template-monitor-advice), which can help you think about more specifics of what you're looking for, and make it easier for us to help you.

In the meantime, if you want better picture quality, I suggest the Samsung 2333T (PVA panel), which I found for about $150 here:

If you have desk space for it and would like a bigger screen, I suggest the Viewsonic VA2702w, which I found for about $250 here:
