Monitor to graphics card dvi to hdmi cable causes fps games to drop in fraps.

Connecting my monitor to my graphics card with a dvi to hdmi cable started causing frame drops in fps games. I changed the texture quality to low but it still has frame drops. Games I am trying to play are Payday 2 and Just Cause 2. Monitor used to be connected to motherboard with hdmi cable, which worked fine and had no frame drops. I was able to play my games with no frame drops.

I have an alienware x51 r2 with a 1.5GB NVidia Geforce Gtx 660 graphics, Intel Core i7-4770 CPU @ 3..40 GHz. 8GB of RAM. Using a ASUS VX228 LCD Monitor. I would like to know why this is happening and a possible fix.

I found out why this is happening. All my games were trying to run in 60fps which caused major lag. I limited the amount of fps and now it works fine.
