Monitor turns black when hz is set above 75

So i have an MSI gt70 2pc Dominator with an gtx870M
I have an acer KG251Q attached to it via an mini DP to DP cable. It is capable of transmitting over 10gbps
of data. But whenever I change the windows or Nvidia settings of the monitor to be above 75Hz it stops displaying anything. Even tho its a 144Hz monitor.

Please help.

The KG251Q is a 75Hz monitor? Is it not?

Even this page, while stating "144Hz" in the title, when you look at the spec:

Refresh Rate 75Hz

If that's the case, just because the bandwidth is there, doesn't mean the monitor/panel can actually do it
