Monitor turns off unexpectantly

So my Monitor has been turning off but the PC stays on. So i replaced the monitor, but the problem happened again. So im thinking that it has to do with the PC. The problem has been going on for a few months now. It happens when i log in to my account. So im forced to restart it about 3 times before im able to access my computer. And quite frequently it happens when i play games, the monitor would show a black screen but i can still hear the game.

I am sorry if this isn't enough information. I am a noob when it comes to PCs.

Try using VGA/DVI, those tend to not do that, i had HDMI do that i me alot, then i started using VGA to HDMI converters.

Have you overclocked your GPU? If you have, go back to default clocks and see if that happens a again. If you haven't OCed then you could try taking your GTX 970 out of the system and running the monitor from your CPUs onboard graphics. I hope this helps

If the computer runs fine without the 970, then I believe that that is faulty.
