[SOLVED] Monitor unable to connect via USB-c to displayport (error port reset failed)

I've recently got a new laptop and wanted to add a monitor to the set-up. I got the ASUS VG248QE, to pair with my ACER Predator Helios 300, using a displayport to usb-c cable to get 144hz refresh rate on both displays. On putting the cable in to the USB-c slot, i get an error message of 'the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it' and the device manager has said the 'port reset failed'.
I have uninstalled the drivers and restarted, updated my bios, changed the power management settings on all USB devices and even tried to install the drivers for the monitor (it was not supported). I'm now worried that my laptop is not compatible with displayport despite it saying it is over USB-C. It is definitely a problem with my laptop, as the monitor works on my phone with displayport to usb-c and on my laptop at 60hz on HDMI.

Is the issue here my laptop or is it a driver problem? Really appreciate the help.

EDIT: forgot to add that my graphics card is a geforce rtx 2060 6gb, so i dont think its a hardware problem in that area.

Solution
In order to output video from the USB C slot, the USB C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode, but the USB C port of Helios 300 does not support such mode.

The USB C slot of Helios 300 supports only data transfer.
