Hey guys

Im about to purchase an 8600k and 1080ti and Ive had my 27" 1080p 144hz benq xl2720z for a couple years now. It would also make sense to upgrade my monitor to something that would actually utilise this hardware.

I mostly game and web browse, next year ill most likely do a little bit of 3D modelling for school.

My question is, what should i upgrade to? 1440p IPS high refresh rate? 4k 60hz? Should i get a monitor arm and keep my xl2720z for a high refresh rate competitive gaming monitor then get a 27" ips display for everything else?

Id appreciate any recommendations / solutions to my problem. Thanks guys

EDIT: I forgot to mention the list of games I currently play: csgo, rocket league, pubg

I plan on investing into more AAA titles with heavier requirements after the upgrade

Based on your games I would say high refresh is your #1 priority if you notice the difference. If you were heavily into games like TW3, SoM, AC, Far Cry series, etc.; then I would say IPS >=60Hz would be the priority. Personally for work stuff I use 3x1440p monitors, which is great for work and great for games that support it.

I used to play a lot of AC, FarCry, and i've played way too much of TW2-3. I want to get back intk heavy gming and I do appreciate the smoothness of a high refresh rate.

Ive never actually used more than one monitor at a time. I was considering keeping my current tn panel for the more competitive games and investing in a quality, high refresh rate, high res, adaptive sync ips display for everything else.

What kind of work do you do, if i might ask?

I personally go for HDR screens ...

it is up to you to choose between the two , you also missed the third option , the ultra wide screens ..the 34 inch , 3440x1440 resolution.

you can also get a high Quality low input lag 4K HDR10 TV (43-55 inch) with Wide color gamut (10 bit or more ) and game on it and keep the FHD for PC use.
(look for 4K Sony TVS 2017 models )
All depends on your budget ofc

Budget is secondary here. I see it as an investment so i dont mind spending a decent amount. Ive deliberately avoided ultrawide monitors because of my consideration to keep my current display, if i were to do that id probably stick to around 27"

Edit: excuse typos, on my phone lol

Mostly training plans/schedules/briefs, lots of assessing and comparing stuff; so 3 screens is great to have two relevant documents open on two screens with my work document in the center screen. Also great to pop a youtube video up in one screen while working. Actually right now I'm planning to get the Asus ROG PG348Q 34-Inch (3440x1440p)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C83BE6U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
and replace my center 27in screen with it. This is my current setup:

Since you have a 1080Ti you could go for a 2560x1440p IPS 144Hz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0173PEX34/?tag=pcpapi-20 or 2560x1440p 165Hz IPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017EVR2VM/?tag=pcpapi-20 or a 3440x1440p 100Hz IPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016GNX4SE/?tag=pcpapi-20 or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C83BE6U/?tag=pcpapi-20

It can get a bit pricey when you talk IPS+high refresh, but that way you don't have to compromise. 2560x1440p and 3440x1440p are a good fit for a 1080Ti.
