Monitor upgrade advice please

Monitors depend on what you play the most. RPG and MMO's are better on a IPS while competitive FPS games are better with the other screen types.

5ms IPS

This is one of the more basic Gaming Monitors that lacks a huge amount of features but it looks fantastic, The screen is really good and it has the basic features include a few gaming mode.

ASUS MX259H 25-Inch, Full HD 1920x1080 IPS $173.88

Very good screen quality with a few more features than the above one. Asus VN248H-P is similar and a little cheaper without the speakers.

Crisp with good color depth for a TN.

Acer GN246HL

24" 1080p 144Hz. $199. It's the best monitor under $200. There are lots upto $250 if you are willing to put up an extra $50.

Personally I'd swap the video card for a Radeon RX580 8GB for the same price as the 1060, and then get this monitor

MSI Optix G24C Black & Red 23.6" Curved FHD 1080p

For $210 you get 144Hz and Freesync. That would be a big upgrade but you need to swap your video card. Good news is the RX580 is just as good and better in many games as the 1060 and it can be had for $320 or just as cheap as the 1060.

That is pretty much a bare standard IPS with absolutely nothing special, it will work and the colors and brightness are adequate but it lacks anything to make it attractive outside of basic business use.

144hz monitors are nice but you end up replacing hardware more often to keep the FPS up. To me 60 fps on a 144hz monitor looks like 30 fps on a 60hz monitor it gets annoying, that is something not everyone can notice but I do. I prefer to stay in the 60-80 hz range since a 1060 is already 2 years old and starting to show it's age in some newer titles but can still hold 60-80fps in nearly everything out at High settings or more.
