Monitor with dvi-d cable and audio cable but no sound

I recently bought an Asus VC239H pc monitor with a dvi-d input. I have the dvi-d cable connected to my gtx 960 graphics card's dvi-i input and i have an audio cable going from my monitor to my motherboard's line out jack but i have no sound. Can anyone help me?

By the way sound works fine with an hdmi cable but i want to use the dvi-d cable because i have a dual monitor setup and the dvi-d cable is not very long and i want to use it for my primary monitor and the hdmi for my 2nd monitor.

Shouldn't it be line out?

open up sound mixer and see if the audio is playing and if so then where ? headphone speakers etc you may have to set the line out as the default audio basically sounds like a setting in windows issue
