Monitor won't display anything after a computer crash

After a crash (freezing of the screen, no error in the event viewer within 15 minutes before the crash), and me restarting the computer using the power button, on the start up the monitor will not display any more. This recently happened once during web browsing and more commonly happened with games, the main culprit being Dirt Rally while CSGO and Crusader Kings 2 never crashed during game time.

Sometimes it can be fixed by switching the DVI cable to another slot on the computer (graphics card to mobo or vice versa). Mobo doesn't always work though. This has been happening for over a month or so, and during that time I have switched monitors, dvi cables, and reinstalled graphics card drivers with no success. I think it may either be a graphics card or possibly even a RAM problem, but I need a second opinion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Solution
Since this happens during games, test the video card first, either another one that uses the same amount of power as yours or test yours in another system. You can run one RAM stick at a time also to check that. Maybe a power supply failing also and causing crashes when the system starts to use more power during gaming.

I replaced RAM with other sticks that I had around the house, and no crashes so far, played dirt rally and tried to trigger crashes but couldn't. It looks like that was the problem.

Thanks for the help!
