[SOLVED] monitor won't display both sources when pivoting between them

I have recently bought a new monitor and I have connected the pc via the display port and connnected my ps4 via hdmi.

However, when i have both my pc and ps4 on, my monitor will not display one of the sources

( If i turn on my pc on first, whenever I try changing my input to hdmi it gives me a black screen and likewise happens if i load my ps first - it will show a black screen whenever I change the input to DP)

Just wondering if it's a built in feature or if there's a fix

Monitor I have is a EG 27" Monitor - QHD 144Hz 1ms Gaming Monitor

It sounds like the monitor doesn't allow for more then one active input at a time, you might need to pick up a video switch box.
