Monitor wont run 144hz.

I just brought a new 144hz monitor, the msi g24c optix. My issue is i can only run 60 hz when its connected via display port to my gtx 980. any suggestions?

Look in the OSD (OnScreenDisplay/menu of the monitor) for settings or else in the Nvidia Control Panel.
