Monitor working on laptop but not on desktop?

Hi all
I have an old flatscreen monitor dell (2007 i think) i tried using it with my newly bought dell Pc but it will not work, i have a Radeon HD 7850, i'v been using my LED ever since i bought it, works fine with an HD cable, but will not work with my old flatscreen.
I tried pluging the old flatscreen on a friends laptop ( toshiba ) and it worked fine.

Why is that?

I didnt connect it to the GPU i bought, it's coming out from a plug above my GPU, it's a 15 pin VGA cable,

Yes there is

If so the computer will recognise the gpu and will shut off Intel's integrated graphics and that's why you aren't receiving a signal to your screen it has to be plugged into the gpu

Oh .. Makes sense
there is another plug on the GPU but it has more pins, do u think that if i use an adaptor to convert this plug to a 15 pin would it work?

I'd guess the gpu has the following cables
- HDMI
- mini display
- Dvi
- D-sub

Yes a converter from DVI to VGA will work, good luck and have fun!
