Monitors Freeze but PC fans still spinning. System Instability.

Hi all, I've got a pretty annoying problem. I just replaced the guts of my old gaming PC with some more modern parts.
System Build:
CPU: AMD FX 8320 (no OC) *NEW*
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-UD3P *NEW*
GPU: EVGA GTX 750 FTW (no OC)
Memory: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport *NEW*
Storage: 1TB Seagate Hard Drive
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified *NEW*
OS: Windows 7 Pro
All parts labeled new were replaced from old hand-me-downs.

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional, and I put my existing EVGA GTX 750 FTW into the system. I have 2 1920x1080 monitors hooked up, one that is 24" and one the is 23". The case has a side panel, so I can see whether fans are spinning and if the system is operating. The problem I've been having is that sometimes when I leave the room and come back, both of my monitors have the last view frozen on the screen, input from the keyboard and mouse is not registered, and the Hard Drive activity light on the case is not blinking. The weird thing is, all of the fans in the system are still spinning, and the backlight on my keyboard and mouse is still on. I have to press the reset switch on the case for it to come back, but once the system turns back on it is fine. I have checked the Windows reliability history, and I found out that the one of the programs that come with my new motherboard, GUI MFC Application, was crashing every time the system did this. I uninstalled Easy Tuner 6, and the problem seemed to have stopped. Well, this morning while I was messing around on the internet, it happened again. I have checked my northbridge temps, and they seem to be within normal range, along with my CPU and GPU temps. It freezes up seemingly randomly, and it doesn't seem to matter if the system is under load or not. Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like drivers are not up to date. Check them first.

Hi,

Make sure windows is updated and that goes for the optional updates aswell,you can do without the language packs but install the rest. I have 2 mobo`s that run amd cpu`s and both did what you describe untill I updated,one a x955 and the other fx8350. They now freeze rarely.

make sure the mb bios is updated and the ram is set to right speed in the bios. try the newest amd chipset drivers from amd. also check the watage of the gpu and cpu on the power supply 12 v line. you may be pushing the power supply 12v line and it not holding. look in the bios voltage and use hardware monitor check the 12v line.

I am looking at the +12v on Hardware Monitor, and my reading say 8.112 V. For -12v it says -4.800. Are these good or bad? Also, I'm about to update my motherboard BIOS, back with an answer soon.

How are you getting voltage readings??? Look in the bios and each should be within -+5% of 12,5 and 3.3.

Again like someone else said post the bios readings.

check it in the bios and you will see 12v,5v and 3.3. The 12v should read 11.4-12.6v,the 5v should read 4.75-5.25v and the 3.3v should read 3.135-3.465v. I have used cpuid before and it does give a lot of voltages and temps but some seem to be label wrong.

My memory is running at the correct speed, but how do I check to see if i have the latest chipset drivers?

Go to asus site and download latest drives for your mobo,don`t forget to make sure the win updates are done as that is what fixed mine.your voltages are fine.

Okay guys thanks, I will use my PC for the next couple of days and report back the results, thanks for all the help!

UPDATE: I just ended up wiping the system and installing Windows 8 Pro, only 2 hangups that happened seemingly randomly, but only those in the past month or so I've used it. Thanks for the help guys!
