I mean unless you do it for a higher resolution, higher refresh rate etc, is there any need to get a monitor for any other reasons?
A CPU and GPU can eventually be crippled, but what about the monitor?

Solution
I tend to follow the same advice as with other components: As long as it's not failing, and you're happy with the performance, no need to replace it.

Eventually some new technology becomes the widespread standard, the way flatscreen replaced CRT, 640x480 was superseded by 1024x768, which was superseded by 1920x1080 ... eventually an even higher resolution will probably become the standard that games are designed for, once the monitors for those resolutions become affordable. You'll know when the time comes.
