Hello,

I have two Dell Latitude Laptops (7490 and 5500) and two HDMI monitors where I'm able to connect either of these two laptops (only one at a time) to my StarTech.com Dual 4K Monitor Mini Thunderbolt 3 Dock with Displayport (https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Laptop-docking-stations/~DK30C2DAGPD ). Both monitors are connected through Video ports to the StarTech dock, which allows me to extend my laptop display between the two monitors. This does work successfully. I also have Keyboard and Mouse connected to the Dock through standard usb. The StarTech dock connects to either of the two laptops through usb c (only 1 laptop at a time, I'm forced to manually plug usb c coord into either laptop). My ultimate goal is to switch between the use of each laptop, so I can work on one laptop with two monitors, then hit a switch button and work on the second laptop with the same two monitors. I purchased the UGREEN HDMI Switch 4K HDMI Splitter, Bi-Directional HDMI Switcher 2 Input 1 Output(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JQH1L83/ ) for this reason. I also purchased a USB C to HDMI Cable(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083Z8QBJ5 ) to run from the Dock(usb c) to the switch (HDMI). I then purchased 2 HDMI cables - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L4NLLWT TESmart 2 Pack 5 ft High Speed with Ethernet 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 HDMI to run form the switch to each of the Laptops.

After connecting the Dock to the Switch and the HDMI cables to the laptop, the monitors do not display anything. It seems as if connection isn't established to the monitors but I'm not sure. I thought this would work, but I'm no hardware guy by any means. Does anyone know where I went wrong or if possible even possible with my current configuration?

Thanks In Advance for your response.
JM.

I've been advised by Startech Tech Support that you can not use HDMI to connect this Startech dock to laptops, that will not work. The dock needs to be connected to the laptops via USB C. I will need to use a USB C sharing switch.
