I know that this subject has been covered in the past but I did not save the
messages and cannot find them at the moment. I have been gifted a second
monitor and wish to add it to my system. I cannot afford another graphics
card. I seek advice about how the two monitors can be run from the same
computer, keeping it simple and, if possible, cheap.

My attempts to find the subject on Google was interesting but totally
unproductive.

It depends on whether or not your graphics card supports two monitors for starters. That would be free.

The card is a 128 MB ATI Radeon 9600 XT TV out & DVI. The device manager
lists: Radeon 9600 series and Radeon 9600 series secondary. Does this help?

I have a nVidea card but I think you should have gotten an adapter for
your DVI connection to attach it to a second monitor. But wait until
someone who knows that card to say yea or nay

You have to buy a smal adaptor to connect your 2e monitor to the DVI
connection, I think that's all.
If you search Google for DVI adaptor you find this small device, do not buy
a cable.

I think I picked one up at our local Fred Meyers for about 6 bucks. Probably 2 bucks at Fry's but it would cost me more
in gas to drive there and back nowadays.

Yes, it does. you should get a dvi to vga adapter to any computer
spare shop, and plug in your second monitor. You should see
that already into your Desktop-Properties-settings dialog,
most likely disabled. If you plug it in via the adapter, specify
its position (to the right of the main one by default) and then
enjoy your flight sims sessions by creating another view
and expanding it on the second monitor. then you go full screen,
and choose the suitable sight direction by pressing keys
in the sequence : CTRL, then 9 then release 9 then release CTRL
to hold it and you have your front right view ready for your
VFR left approaches.

Wim, your reference to the web site with the photograph was a master stroke.
Seeing that I suddenly realised that such a converter was supplied with the
computer. I checked the 'box' and sure enough it is the same. I just need to
pick up some leads and I will be in action.
