Monoblock vs CPU block only? Watercooling yayyy!

Is it worth getting a monoblock over a cpu block only when doing a custom loop?

I've been doing some research for doing custom loops in the future because I eventually want to move to one. The one big thing I have noticed is that some people say that the VRM heatsinks alone don't cool the motherboard components enough and usually the airflow from the cpu cooler if it's an air cooler assists with that. When going the route of water cooling the fan over the cpu socket is of course absent and can overheating motherboard components become a problem?

Is it better to just get a motherboard that has a supported monoblock by a manufacturer like EK or some other seller? Or is a cpu block just fine?
