I'm upgrading my system and i would like to make the best divx computer. Does anyone have access to a benchmark showing the benefit of dual processor when using DIVX ?

Encoding? or Playback?

Well, to tell ya the truth that IS a good question. I know right now that there is two really mainstream ways to do the encoding: dvd2avi (think thats what it is) which is an msdos program and may not have a way to recognize 2nd cpu. Then there is the FlaskMPEG way, it also probably wont recognize the 2nd cpu. I'm sure with the open sourced way that it is, somebody will come up with a way to utilize that second cpu, but till then, it prbly won't get you anything encoding. You will get better performance with those things that CAN utilize both of them (winNT/2000+programs). I maybe wrong though on this whole thing though, somebody want to enlighten us if you know any different?

i know Tom got a dual processor system i'm sure he can answer that question. I will ask him directly and post the reply here if there is any answer. In fact i was thinking of uprgrading to a dual celeron 566 and overcloking to 855 so i would like to know if there will be a real gain with flask mpeg...i actually got a P2 350 Mhz and with Flask and the subtitle it takes me more than 24 hrs by choosing best quality....i'd like to sleep without the sound of my computer fan....

i just thought about something, dvd2avi is dos program and faster than flask mpeg i think with win2000 on a dual processor it might be possible to launch it twice so each processor run it to work on several vob files and then after merge them together... Did someone tried this ?

On my BP6 (Windows 2000) I can run a copy of FlaskMPEG on each processor and double the performance I would get if I ran 1.

How do you specify that? I've never run 2000 on dually, but I might be more interested if I thought it possible...
