Montor resolution and 360

I have a strange thing going on. Not really a problem, more of a good thing but anyways: My monitor is a 22 inch samsung. The highest resolution i can go in windows is 1680x1050. Which is fine and dandy. But i just borrowed my brothers xbox 360 and i hooked it up via vga. When i go into the display options it lets me set the display to 1920x1080. At first i thought it was just some kind of error, but when i play games it is crystal clear like playing on an HD tv. Does anyone know how/why this is possible?

bump... no answers? Oh and is there a way to force a higher resolution in windows?
