I was thinking about upgrading my computer. Here's what I have vs. what I want to upgrade to. CPU: Pentium 4 EE 3.73, RAM: 4GB DDR2 533 mhz (Samsung), Motherboard: Dell 1 PCI-E x16 slot. I want to upgrade these items to: CPU: Pentium D955 3.46, RAM: 4GB DDR2 667 mhz (Corsair Xtreme Performance) and Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe. Here's my question...would the money I throw down now for upgrades (about $1,700) be worth what I would be upgrading from. The only reason I want to upgrade is to move to a dual-core CPU, plus I want to get into overclocking, and my Dell Motherboard, that's out of the question. Plus I heard that you could overclock the Pentium D955 to 4 Ghz. What do you guys think? Is it worth the money??

For me that would be a hefty chunk of change to toss down for that upgrade, especially if I wanted it but didn't really need it. So I guess the question would be is that a lot of money for you and if it is, could you really live without the upgrade?

If it is not a lot of money for you, then go for it. If it is a lot of money, then I would simply ask myself "Do I really need this?"

Yeah, I guess I don't really need it right away. I was just thinking that technically, my motherboard doesn't really give me much option to upgrade in the future. It is a chunk of change that I really don't want to get rid of. So basically, they'll be a minimal performance boost if I decided to upgrade now? Perhaps I should hold on to my wallet and wait for a couple more processors to come out, then upgrade. Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated!!
