[SOLVED] More RAM now or possible to update later? 32GB vs 64GB with AMD 5900x (After Effects)

I am considering an update before I even ordered all parts.

I already got the mainboard, so I feel like I might need to update that later as it might be underperforming for the other parts as I am already upscaling in my head.

The main issue right I see might be the RAM - the update will be massive for my current setup already (i5 6600k, r9 390, 16GM RAM) but I am unsure if I should go for 64GB RAM right away or just stay with the 32GB.



After Effects' recent version seems to be more ram hungry than the older ones and I am unsure if I should update later with 2 more 16GB Ram sticks or immediately go for 2x 32.

It might be a bit of an overkill but maybe you have some thoughts on this.

If you use your system to generate income, then it's best you spec the build out as much as possible provided it doesn't make your wallet into Gargantua(Interstellar reference). Pro tip, you can forgo the fans purchase at the time of writing and spend that towards your ram, once the system is up and running you can save the dough and then invest on fans. Doing that means your backbone to the build is solid, you merely need to add-on parts.

It's as though you have a motherboard that's not listed on PCPP.

Ideally, RAM shouldn't be something you try to upgrade later, especially if you already know you may need to upgrade. Also if the system is used for professional reasons that may require high memory usage, the extra cost will be well worth it. Get it done now and save time and potential hassle as well.

Thank you very much Lutfij and gskill support! Would you recommend two 32GB sticks or four 16GB? Is there a significant difference?

16GB modules you can get better OC chips, but otherwise either way can work great for that system.
