More screen lower FPS ?

I am using GTX 980 with three monitors, When I play games, the game only displays in my main monitor, the other two display desktop. I would like to know will the number of monitor lower the FPS in game ? Is it true that single monitor will provide the highest FPS ?

It may reduce FPS 2-5 per monitor in the worst cases. If you have videos or other demanding things running on them it may be more.

Other than that, multiple monitors does not impact performance too much.

A graphics card plugged into a single monitor will display higher FPS because the resolution is generally lower on one monitor compared to 2 or 3. If you're gaming on only one of the monitors it won't make much difference.
