i am thinking of getting more storage. i currently have an intel ssd (peknw512gb). i was gonna just get another one thats the exact same but my friends say i should just get a samsung (mz-77e1t0b/am) because they say that a terrabyte will perform better than 2 ssds that are 512 each. what do u guys think?

i have a desktop 16 ram, rtx 2070s, ryzen 3070x and 512 gigs of ram. i know that more storage is better but im just trying to figure out if its better to get another 512 gig ssd or buy a terrabyte and get rid of the 512 i have

Based on the model numbers you posted, it sounds like you're proposing to replace an m.2 drive with a SATA ssd drive. This will result in slower performance since the m.2 interface was created primarily to speed up data transfers. So what you're proposing would be OK if you don't care about data transfer speed. Otherwise you might get better performance with this:

From a perf stand point unless your a serious power user I think you are splitting hairs.

That difference in this particular Samsung line is not due to size, but rather TLC vs SLC cache.

I'm not an expert but I think the CPU (and other components) should also be considered to see how your storage device will perform in the real world. I have Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 9 CPUs with exactly the same boot drive, a 250GB Samsung 860 EVO. Also, both have the same 32GB (4x8GB) 3200MHz RAM.

You might find that if you freed up some space on the disk that's 90% full it might write faster.

Yeah, that was a bad example. But there are drives that have different transfer speeds, depending on capacity, be it 120 gig, 240 or 480 gig. So OP should look up the characteristics of the model he/she plans to buy.
And yeah, you should partition the drive so that you can't fill it to or over 90%. So you make a 10% partition that you never format with a filesystem.

Just get what size you need and add it to what you have then you just format it and assign a drive letter and your all set nothing to mess with like reinstalling the OS or cloning.
