More Than 2000 Fonts?

I realize there are font limitations in Win98 relegating the number of fonts from 800 to 1100 give or take..... Does Windows 2000 have this also?

I have some friends that are into silkscreening and want/need tons of fonts. I've no doubt they wouldn't add 2000 or more next week if they could.....It's a pain for them to add/remove fonts as they go since it takes some time ...........

So.....Is there a way to have unlimited numbers of fonts installed for easy access?

Just found KB article that there are no limitations on the font folder size in Windows 2000

Having too many fonts installed at the same time can cause resource problems. Each font that is currently installed on your system is living in memory and/or your swap files. This will cause a tremendous system slowdown. Being in graphic arts myself I can tell you that if you use one of the many font managment programs available you will save much more time loading a few fonts than it will be to wait for a large photoshop file to redraw while short on memory. Look at it this way a 10 meg photoshop file will consume at least 20 megs for a redraw as is must keep a backup in memory in case you dont like the effects you just introduced (undo). Multiple levels of undo obviously increase this numer by the same amount. This doesnt include the memory needed to apply the effect, the overhead of the program itself,the loaded fonts,windows overhead, and any other progs. you may have running.
With about a 1/2 hours thought your friend can use the font management program with about 200-300 fonts that will cover at least 90% of his day to day needs. Then with another suitcase already setup he can introduce other fonts as may be needed. No need to reboot or restart windows and the best part is that if he has used a font in a file that is not currently loaded the program will inform him when it comes time to image the file.
