News Most GPUs Now Start Below MSRP: Graphics Card Prices, August 2022

not where i am, they look to still be over priced, and above msrp ( even after conversion ) to local currency.

might take another 1-2 months for this to happen here, by that point, may as well just get the 40 series and radeon 7000 series.

The 4090 and 4090 Ti will be energy consuming beasts. I would need solar panels just for the graphics cards in my kids gaming rigs, otherwise their mom will ban gaming when she sees the electric bill. Also, bedrooms usually only have 15 amp circuits and 14 guage wires. That kind power would need at least 20 amp circuit and 12 guage wires. So, I would need to rewire the bedrooms. Additionally, I am not paying $1500 -$2000 for a graphics card, plus the cost of rewiring bedrooms and the cost of solar panels. My kids will have to settle for 4070s under the Christmas tree.

I have 4 GTX 1660 Ti's I've been wanting to replace for a couple of years, but here, there are no cards yet at or below MSRP. At least in the nVidia range, I haven't looked at the AMD range, but AMD is typically higher than it's competitors here.

Perhaps as @Ogotai says it will take longer. However, I fear declining exchange rate, inflation and retailer greed will keep the prices above MSRP even after exchange rate conversions and taxes.

<sigh>

Graphics card prices and availability continue to improve, and the used market is being flooded with old mining cards. Here's a look at the current prices, for new cards at retail as well as used GPUs on eBay.

Lower prices are always welcome but these MSRP prices are nuts. Top of the line card should be $500 bucks max. There's just too much pent up demand and too many people willing to spend two grand on a 3090 TI that's maybe 10 or 15% faster. It's totally crazy out there.

Somewhat frustratingly, I'm not seeing price drops here - if anything, they're increasing. Looking at the RTX 3060's, they've got an RRP of £300, but you're looking at £370-500, which is the price they have been for the last couple of months, although some models have increased (ASUS's "TUF" model going from £420 to £480 in the last couple of weeks). The story's much the same with the RTX 3060 Ti (RRP of £370, but you're really looking at £470-550). It's looking like I'll be keeping my GTX 970 for a while longer (possibly until it breaks, at this rate!). :/

Well the price of copper is way down, so you are definitely over paying for their heatsinks.
Copper is going to be skyrocketing in the next few years along with many other elements

The push to EVs and such. Don’t expect cheap prices anymore

You would have to be dumb as a bag of hammers to buy GPU's from Ebay.
Why is anything ebay even relevant to msrp ?

Why. Wait for the 4070 and get 3090 performance for a MSRP of approximately $550, assuming price adjustment in line with 10% inflation.
You really think more than a sliver of gamers will get their hands on a new GPU? Bots will buy them out. Prices will basically look the same as they do now. So a 4070 will go for the price of a 3090 on eBay because it performs like one. Not to mention crypto currency's value will likely start to crawl back up after its market correction. I don't see any next Gen GPUs being available to the masses at MSRP for at least a year after release, probably even longer.

THIS! SO MUCH THIS! AMD and NVIDIA are counting on consumers having really short, short-term memories.
The last, greatest MSRP bargain (performance vs. price) was the OG RTX 3080. At $700 MSRP the generational uplift was insanely good. It was released right before GPU prices started steadily climbing.

Now, top-tier performance is reserved for those willing to spend $1000+ MSRP. Although we are still in the GPU pricing crash, and the latest gen can currently be had for under MSRP, I'm sure this trend won't continue into the next generation. $1000+ is the new $700!

Those prices on the current generation of cards still look really high to me. The new generation is only a month or few away. Best to wait. We're starting to see the return of free no-additional-cost games bundled with GPUs, but they're still uncommon and not the latest AAA games. That makes it clear there's still room to price correct.

Will there be bots and scalpers for the new GPUs? Absolutely. Will it be as bad as with the outgoing, 2-year old cards? I don't think so. Production contracts that were established during the shortage are in effect now, there hasn't been stimulus money recently, loans are harder to get and more expensive, and the new GPUs are launching in the middle of a global recession. I don't think the stock situation will be as bad with the new AMD and Nvidia cards.

"Great news". Cards that are two years old and about to become older gen are selling for the price of newly released cards...
No thanks.
My 1080ti will have to hold on for another year or whatever it takes till there are no shortages of GPUs

Yeah I'm definitely interested to see how NVIDIA plans to do MSRP on the 4000 series cards. I would be willing to bet good money those won't be cheap.

I'm getting a 3000 series because I don't want to pay bot / minion prices on the 4th gen. Although I seriously hope that will be over by then.

You are aware that it is likely thay the only card released this year by Nvidia will be the 4090, yes? Waiting is nonsense if that is true. Plus availability of the new cards most likely being poor.
