Hi all I just started being interested in BG. I saw a lot of web sites
of it and I still have to figure this out:

What is the actual sequel of BG1? I've seen shadows of Amn, throne of
baal, and I still don't get which is the actual game and which the sequel.

Given that I've never played a BG game before, what would you suggest
me? Should I start from the beginning or just go buy BG2? And which one?

Thanks in advance

BG1 has an expansion, "Tales of the Sword Coast", which isn't exactly a
sequel, since it just makes the BG1 game itself bigger, i.e., you have more
areas to explore and more quests available for your character to gain
experience.

The follow-on to BG1 is BG2. Throne of Bhaal is a sequel to BG2, although it
also includes a dungeon which can be accessed while you're still playing
BG2. By the way, BG2 *is* "Shadows of Amn".

There's really nothing wrong with just playing BG1 in its unaltered form;
that's what I think most people do when they're starting out. My personal
preference would be to get BG2 and also the BGTutu mod: BG2 allows character
classes which aren't available in BG1, e.g., sorcerer, monk, assassin,
several sub-classes of bards, and several fighter sub-classes. BGTutu allows
you to play BG1 with those expanded character classes, so your character
starts out from scratch. (However, you need to have both BG1 and BG2
installed in order to use BGTutu.)

Good for you, it's a great series. But be prepared to loose some sleep 😉

The line of BG games is:

Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate expansion: Tales Of The Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Baldur's Gate II expansion: Throne Of Baal

IMO You should just get them all and start from the beginning (though I
haven't played TOTSC, sop I don't know if it's any good).

P.S. Check out www.planetbaldursgate.com if you haven't already, it's a
great site for BG.

Since this is your first time play the games in order. So:

BG1
BG1: Tales of the Sword Coast (Expansion)
BG2
BG2: Throne of Bhall (Expansion)

That way when you come to play BG2 you'll have a good grasp of the game
mechanics and won't be scratching your head when a character comes up to you
and starts reminiscing about the stuff you did in BG1.

When you finish both games, you may want to replay them with mods, but to
begin with play them as they are.
