Hi all I just started being interested in BG. I saw a lot of web sites
of it and I still have to figure this out:

What is the actual sequel of BG1? I've seen shadows of Amn, throne of
baal, and I still don't get which is the actual game and which the sequel.

Given that I've never played a BG game before, what would you suggest
me? Should I start from the beginning or just go buy BG2? And which one?

Thanks in advance

Shadow of Amn is the sequel. Throne of Bhaal is an add-on for SoA that
finishes the Baldur's Gate saga but it is much shorter then SoA. Get
both since ToB also adds some nice features to the base game.

The BG2 game play is pretty complex and not always intuitive. It may be
easier to start with BG1. The BG1 game engine is old and crusty, so if
you have played mostly more modern games, you will be in for a little
shock. The game play itself is pretty good, but I think BG2 is much
better. You should also get Tales of the Sword Coast, the add-on for BG1.

If you are feeling adventurous you can even use the BGTutu game mod that
will allow you to play BG1 using the BG2 game engine. You will need
both games installed to do this. It is nice because it will allow you
to use the much better BG2 game engine. pocketplane.net is a good site
for BG2 mods, including BGTutu. weidu.org is also a good site.

Buy Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga. It's better than BG2 in some
ways, though overall I like BG2 better because of better character
interaction.

I'd advise against using an engine conversion your first time; there are
features of BG1 you'll never see if you do that (particularly if, say,
you use Charm Person).

Then in BG2, Shadows of Amn is the primary game while Throne of Bhaal is
the expansion.
