[SOLVED] Most suitable gpu for 2k gaming with i5 9400f that wouldn't be an overkill?

So I have a rog strix 1060 6gb gpu, i5 9400f cpu and 16 gb Ram 2x corsair dominator platinum 3000mhz. I am planning to buy a 2k 144hz monitor in a couple of months so I am thinking of upgrading my gpu. I am absolutely not interested in 4k gaming which is why I don't want a 1080 or 1080ti, I need something cheaper that would get me 120 or 144 fps on ultra settings for most modern games and at least 60 fps on the most demanding ones (like cyberpunk maybe), it is also important that the gpu doesn't get bottlenecked by my cpu. I am thinking of getting a rtx 2060 super (I really don't want a amd gpu) so any other, more suitable options for my rig?

Solution
I’d say even a 2080 Super is not too much if pushing the latest AAA. I have a 2080 Super and at 1440p, for example COD MW with a mixture of high to ultra settings averages 120fps. I think a 9400F should be able to keep up with this FPS. I think it comes down to how much you want to spend versus how much you are willing to compromise on FPS/game settings which is a personal choice with no right/wrong answer.
So are they on the same power level or does one of them have the edge?
RX 5700 XT is almost on the same level as a 2070S. I would definetly go with AMD.

See for yourself here and here

EDIT: Also forgot to say that if you buy a rx5700xt you also have the power to maybe upgrade to a 1440p monitor aswell, seeing as theyre not very expensive nowadays.

Yes, how much you are willing to spend is definitely important and I am trying to build a relatively budget pc which is why I am not going for 4k and which is why 2080 would be a huuuge overkill for me, plus I used two different bottleneck calculators that are available on the internet (I am not sure how reliable those are though) and found that 1080 ti, 2070 and 2070S would be bottlenecked by my cpu while 1080, 2060, 2060s and 5700 xt are fine. So I really have no idea what to do because 1080 is currently out of reach budgetwise for me, I really do not want to purchase amd gpu because too many of my friends had awful experiences with them, 2060 is definitely not strong enough for 2k and 2060s seems like the best choice but after some research I found out that it is not the most optimal gpu for 2k...1080 is the best gpu for me most definitely but it is just not getting cheaper. Sorry for the huge reply.

Bottleneck calculators are misleading garbage, my advice is never use them and forget anything you read. For example a 9400F with a 2080Ti would work very well at 4K but at 1080p there would be a significant bottleneck in most/all games.

1440p is hard on the GPU and a 9400 can provide good FPS. At this point it really comes down to what you want to spend. Unless you were looking at a 2080Ti because you are running a resolution significantly higher than 1080p I really don’t feel bottlenecking even comes into the decision. The level of gpu’s you are looking at are not going to be limited by a 9400 at 1440p, maybe at 1080p they would but not 1440p.

So if we consider my budget constraints would you suggest a 2070S as the most optimal choice?
