Hey there! I recently purchased a whole new set of components, and realized that I am getting crashes while playing games, prolonged desktop usage is fine.

Posting in the motherboards section due to my suspicion that it may be driver related.

Sometimes I get a BSOD, sometimes it just hangs until I manually power off.

Components:

Z170 Deluxe Asus Mobo

16GB HyperX DDR4

6700k (not overclocked)

EVGA 980ti Hybrid

Crucial M4 SSD 250GB (about 2 years old, used for OS)

Seagate 2tb HDD (new)

Western Digital Blue 1.5tb (about 3-5 years old, 30k hours usage, running at 50C for some reason)

Windows 10

The three BSOD codes i've gotten are :

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

IRLQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

In bluescreen view, two of these dumps point towards ntoskrnl.exe and one to fwpkclnt.sys

I've taken the following steps:

Ran MEMTEST (no errors)

Ran CHKDSK (no errors, but it only checks the windows install drive)

Updated BIOS & Drivers

Ran Crystaldisk info (newish SSD & HDD are "good", old HDD with 30k hours is "caution" due to sector reallocation)

Looked on the ASUS website for other component drivers, getting them to install was a nightmare, not sure if it worked

Seeing as the RAM checked out, google has narrowed it down to drivers or a malfunctioning hard drive. I understand that the next step is still more diagnosis, Tom's hardware has helped me out in the past, and that HDD with 30k hours is looking fishy to me. Or doesn't windows care about the HDDs that the OS isn't installed on? What do you think I should do?

I can provide more data from the bluescreen logs if required, thanks!

Running driver verifier currently, still haven't managed to provoke a crash. going to post the logs of the .dmp files from the crashes if that helps. Sometimes they leave a .dmp, sometimes it just hangs and repeats a sound so I have to turn it off manually.

This is quite unsettling, considering every topic i've come across facing ntsokrnl.exe problems has resulted in people giving up/buying a new computer.
