Hi everyone, I hope you can help me

I'm planning to get this PC config

Mother ASROCK N68-VS3 FX

CPU Athlon X2 270 3.4GHz

RAM 4GB DDR3 1333GHz

I already have a nVidia GeForce GT220 1GB DDR3 so PLEASE do not suggest any video card since I can't afford a new one

my question is, do you think this would be a descent PC for playing games?

I don't entend to play in FULL HD high resolutions, I go for smoothness, so normal/high settings work just fine for me

I can get all these 3 components (MOBO, CPU, RAM) for 200US here in my country and that's my limit

thank you in advance to you all

If you want to play old games then that will be fine but It will not play crysis 2 or any heavy CPU or heavy GPU intensive games. It is all based on the games you play. Your GPU is worse than some newer APU's graphics. If you build this machine it will have the power of a $400 USD laptop with out a discrete GPU card.

My advice is save some more money and then build a system because this one would only be good for a weak media center.

bgunner, thanks for your reply

the PC I have now is a Geforce6100 with 2GB RAM DDR2 (yes, DDR2), a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ at 2GB and the videocard mentioned (GT220 1GB DDR3 128bit), currently I'm playing FIFA 14 (normal, 1360x768) SKYRIM (HIGH, various graphics mods, 1360x768), I run Borderlands in HIGH as well as GRID 2 in HIGH and, I can run Assassin's Creed Black dearest comrade with everything in low and resolution of 1024x???

so I guess that the config provided in my first post (which is WAY better than my actual PC) would run, maybe, AC4 in normal settings at 1360x768? something like that?

thank you!

That is very difficult to say because of the weak GPU you have. In theory Upping the CPU and Ram (like mentioned) should produce more FPS but may get bottle necked by the GPU.

as an example of what I am trying to say : Even if the CPU and Ram are able to run AC4 at 30 FPS on normal settings, If the GPU is incapable of doing the same you will not be able to play at those settings. This would be because of the GPU being to weak. Without actually testing that setup for myself I can only guess and say Maybe it could.

what FPS are you running at when you play those games at those settings?

bgunner, while running those games at those settings (I have win7 32bits) I GUESS I'm getting the best FPS, since the games run smooth as ever, perfectly OK (except for AC4, which runs at slower fps)

I see what you mean by the bottleneck, but isn't my GPU going to run smoothly with an AM3 motherboard, 4GB RAM?, I would expect my GPU to cope with such things
