Hi, is the Gigabyte RX 580 8gb compatible with the old Haswell MSI z97 gaming 5 mobo? Does anyone have or tried this build? I installed the RX 580 8gb and it seems to crash, starting up a game or sometimes crash from the desktop.

Hi there

I have the R9 290 4Gb (2013 card) and a new RX 570 8gb (2019 card) both cards are almost identical in performance running WOT at 1080i ultra. I run them on a Gigabyte 990x gaming board (on with M.2) and a bog standard 970a with AMD 8350 cpu neither without any problems. The R9 290 is a real steal from CEX with 2 yr warranty against almost the same card the RX 570 that costs quite a bit more. If u can get one at the right price I would recommend the R9 290 but I would also say try and get the 390x 8Gb same as the current RX 580 there is so little difference its ALMOST irrelevant. R9 290 is same as RX 570 as the 390 is to the RX 580
