I builded a pc with a motherboard M5a78l-m/usb3, when i set everything up i found out it wont make sound. It works with a headphone but i don't rely on it. I look at the mobo's case and see this "8-channel high definition audio" I don't know if this is working or what. Can anyone help me to know what is "8-channel high definition audio" and how to use it?

Hi JianweiGao,

From Asus' website: VIA VT1708S 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC

This means that the motherboards Audio Codec can handle 8 channels for Audio. Typically sound systems are installed as a 5.1 or 7.1 etc (there are more configurations). Your Motherboard would be able to support a 7.1 sound system () thats an example of a 7.1 sound system.

So in order to test if the 8 channel audio works, you would have to get a 7.1 system, typically 5.1 is a more widely spread "standard" as this was the original "Dolby Surround Sound". (https://www.logitech.com/en-nz/product/surround-sound-speakers-z506?crid=1588) a 5.1 system

So your Motherboard "plugs" would typically be assigned as follows (i might be wrong - this is just for...

That (to me) means that the motherboard has 7.1 output capabilities. There are 4 colored 3.5mm jacks on the back of the motherboard that can provide 8 different audio channels out to amplifiers. See the picture

The ports on the right side of the picture can be used to connect mutil-channel amplifier.

So your Motherboard "plugs" would typically be assigned as follows (i might be wrong - this is just for arguments sake):
Green - Front left and Front right
Orange - Rear left and Rear right
Black - Center and Subwoofer

This would be the setup for a 5.1 system.

A 7.1 system would require (for argument sake):
Green - Front left and Front right
Orange - Surround Rear left and Surround Rear right
Grey - Surround Side left and Surround Side right
Black - Center and Subwoofer

I hope this makes sense?
